Preparations Underway for the Upcoming Hockey World Cup

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], November 24: As the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2025 approaches, scheduled from November 28 to December 10, Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has confirmed that he has reviewed the comprehensive arrangements at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. He emphasized that security measures and transportation for students attending the event are well-organized.


The tournament will feature 24 nations, including India, competing in three pools hosted in Chennai. A total of 72 matches will take place across Chennai and Madurai during this period.


Stalin stated, “I have inspected the preparations at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, where the 14th Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup matches will occur. All necessary arrangements are in place. Matches will kick off on the 28th in both Madurai and Chennai. We have arranged transportation for students in hostels, particularly those involved in sports, to attend the matches via buses. Security measures are robust, and we are fully prepared. Additionally, I would like to congratulate the Kabaddi World Cup winners. We will honor their Tamilian coach upon their return,” he remarked during his address.


Previously, the Tamil Nadu government inaugurated the Madurai International Hockey Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility located at the Race Course Complex. This venue is designed to meet Olympic standards and is expected to significantly enhance hockey development in southern India, according to a release from Hockey India.


Stalin noted, “The newly built Madurai International Hockey Stadium reflects Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a global sports hub. This facility marks Madurai’s entry onto the international sports scene. Our vision extends beyond this tournament; we aspire to make Madurai the premier center for hockey excellence in southern India and a driver for comprehensive development.”
