Switzerland Dominates Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in World Cup Showdown
Switzerland's Impressive Victory
In a thrilling FIFA World Cup 2026 match, Switzerland triumphed over 10-man Bosnia and Herzegovina with a score of 4-1, thanks to impactful performances from substitutes Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas.
Initially, Switzerland struggled to penetrate their opponents' defense, but the game shifted dramatically following the substitutions, particularly with Manzambi's involvement leading to Tarik Muharemovic's red card.
The first half saw Switzerland create few opportunities, with Dan Ndoye and Remo Freuler both coming close yet unable to score.
Bosnia-Herzegovina's goalkeeper, Vasilj, made several crucial saves early in the second half, including a remarkable stop against Ndoye's overhead kick and a close-range header from Breel Embolo. However, Switzerland began to apply more pressure after a hydration break, while Amar Dedic also tested Gregor Kobel at the opposite end.
Manzambi opened the scoring shortly after his introduction, netting a rebound volley in the 74th minute following a chaotic situation in the box from Vargas' cross.
He continued to influence the match, assisting in the play that led to Embolo being fouled by Muharemovic, resulting in a straight red card for the defender.
Vargas then increased Switzerland's lead to 3-0 with a calm low finish, and Manzambi capped off his remarkable performance by scoring again in the 90th minute.
Bosnia-Herzegovina managed a brief response with Ermin Mahmic's powerful late goal, but Switzerland quickly regained control as Granit Xhaka converted a penalty after Djibril Sow was fouled.
This victory propelled Switzerland to the top of Group B.
Despite a lackluster first half, the substitutions made a significant impact, with Manzambi becoming one of the youngest players to score twice in World Cup history, showcasing the effectiveness of Murat Yakin's tactical adjustments after halftime.
