Suryansh Shedge Steps In

All-rounder Suryansh Shedge has been called up to the Indian cricket team, taking the place of the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.

According to an official announcement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Men's Selection Committee has confirmed Shedge's inclusion in the squad. Nitish Kumar Reddy experienced discomfort in his left quadriceps following the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. After a thorough medical evaluation, the BCCI Medical Team has advised a rehabilitation period, which will prevent him from participating in both T20I series.

Shedge's Impressive Track Record

Suryansh earned his spot in the squad due to his outstanding performances for India A during the recent tri-series held in Sri Lanka. The 23-year-old middle-order batsman accumulated 147 runs over five matches and contributed with the ball, delivering 23 overs and securing two wickets. Notably, he scored an unbeaten 72* against Sri Lanka A.

Additionally, he was a key player for Mumbai in their successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign for the 2024-25 season, amassing 131 runs at an impressive strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order, significantly aiding their title victory. In the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) season with Punjab Kings (PBKS), Suryansh scored 158 runs across seven innings, averaging 39.50 with a strike rate of 175.50, including one half-century.

Upcoming Matches for India

India's cricket team is set to play two T20I matches in Ireland on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20I series in England commencing on July 1, which will be succeeded by three ODIs. These fixtures will mark India's first T20I matches since their World Cup victory earlier this year, with Shreyas Iyer appointed as the captain for this format.
