Suryakumar Yadav's Successful Surgery

India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has successfully completed surgery for a sports hernia located in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany.

Reports indicated last week that Suryakumar was dealing with a sports hernia and would require surgery if necessary.

On Wednesday, the 34-year-old cricketer shared an update on social media, stating, “Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”

A sports hernia is characterized as a soft tissue injury affecting the groin or lower abdomen, typically involving muscles, tendons, or ligaments.

Post-surgery, he is anticipated to start his rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in approximately two weeks.

India's upcoming white-ball series includes a tour to Bangladesh in August, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

Suryakumar, who has not played in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to return to captain the T20I team in Chattogram on August 26.

This marks Suryakumar's third surgical procedure in as many years; he previously underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and had a similar sports hernia operation in 2024.

Before his surgery, Suryakumar was in outstanding form for the Mumbai Indians during IPL 2025, earning the title of Player-of-the-Tournament.

He scored 717 runs, placing him second behind Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan, who had 759 runs, as the Mumbai Indians reached the playoffs, ultimately losing to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2.

Following the IPL, he led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the T20 Mumbai League, accumulating 122 runs over five innings.
