Suryakumar Yadav Under Fire for Inconsistent Batting

Suryakumar Yadav, the Mumbai Indians (MI) batter, is facing intense criticism due to his inconsistent batting display, particularly after a disappointing performance in the IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium on April 29.

After MI's captain Hardik Pandya chose to bat first, openers Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks provided a strong start with a 93-run partnership before Jacks was dismissed for 46, narrowly missing his first fifty of the season. Suryakumar then joined Rickelton to continue the innings.

However, Suryakumar's innings was cut short as he was dismissed for just four runs by Eshan Malinga, leading to a sudden downturn in MI's batting performance after a solid opening.

Continued Struggles for Suryakumar Yadav

Once again, Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to convert his starts into significant scores, a trend that has plagued him throughout the IPL 2026 season. He typically bats at No. 3 or No. 4, alternating with Tilak Varma in the middle order.

In his first four matches, Suryakumar scored 16, 51, 6, and 33 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In the following four games, he managed only 0, 15, 36, and 5 against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His pattern of dismissals has raised alarms, as repeated low scores have put additional pressure on MI's middle order during critical matches. Suryakumar has been scoring runs in bursts rather than delivering consistent, match-winning performances, leaving the team vulnerable during crucial phases.

Fan Backlash Over Suryakumar's Performance

The inconsistency of Suryakumar Yadav has sparked a heated discussion on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), where fans and cricket enthusiasts have expressed their frustration and disappointment over his recent performances.

Many fans have taken to their X accounts to voice their concerns, with some labeling his form as 'lost' and mocking his repeated failures. Others have gone so far as to question his position in the playing XI, demanding clarity on his future role in the team amid growing dissatisfaction.

Comments range from expressing emotional disappointment to outright calls for his exclusion from the team, with some fans suggesting that the Indian team should start preparing for future tournaments without him.

Mumbai Indians' Performance and Standings

Despite Suryakumar's struggles, the Mumbai Indians managed to post a competitive total of 243/5 in their 20 overs, setting a target of 244 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ryan Rickelton was the standout performer, scoring an impressive 123 off 55 balls, including 10 fours and 8 sixes.

As of now, MI is positioned ninth on the points table with 2 wins and 5 losses, holding a net run rate (NRR) of -7.036 after seven matches.
