Surya Pickleball Tournament in Indore Attracts 90 Players Across 18 Categories
Successful Surya Pickleball Tournament
The Surya Pickleball Tournament held in Indore was a resounding success, featuring 90 participants competing in 18 different categories over three days. This event, sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association as a PWR 100 tournament, commenced on March 27 and marked a pivotal moment for the sport in the region. It provided a platform for young athletes, newcomers, and dignitaries to come together.
Mukta Singh, an organizing member who played a crucial role in the event, emphasized the initiatives taken to boost participation, particularly among first-time players. She noted that initial concerns regarding registration requirements were addressed through a focused strategy.
“There was some reluctance to join because players needed to be affiliated with the association first. Our organizing secretary and MPPA board member Suryansh Yadav devised a plan to encourage more entries,” Singh explained.
To alleviate financial concerns, the organizers implemented a support system that significantly increased registrations. “If players submitted three or more entries, we covered their registration fees. Surya Pickleball Academy took on these costs, resulting in a surge of interest from children,” she added.
The enthusiastic response from participants, especially the youth, was a standout feature of the tournament. Singh reported positive feedback, with many expressing a desire for more frequent competitions. “They are enjoying the experience and are eager for us to host additional tournaments. They appreciate the competitive atmosphere and are pleased to see their progress,” she stated.
This event not only offered valuable match experience but also fostered a competitive spirit among emerging players in the area. With the increase in participation and encouraging responses, Singh anticipates even greater attendance in future tournaments.
As pickleball continues to gain traction in Indore, such initiatives are crucial for establishing a robust grassroots foundation, providing young players with both exposure and opportunities in a well-structured competitive environment.
