Sunrisers Hyderabad Faces Setback in IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad's chances of making the playoffs in IPL 2025 took a significant hit following a 38-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Friday. This loss leaves the team, led by Pat Cummins, in ninth place on the points table, necessitating victories in all remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive.

After their previous win against CSK, the team took a short break, opting for a trip to the Maldives to recharge. However, this decision drew sharp criticism from former cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Harbhajan Singh.

In the match, SRH struggled with both bowling and fielding, allowing Gujarat to score 224 runs for 6 wickets after winning the toss. Their fielding was particularly scrutinized, with multiple misfields and dropped catches, including a crucial drop by Cummins that enabled Jos Buttler to score a pivotal 64.

Commenting on the performance during a broadcast on Star Sports, Deep Dasgupta remarked, "It seems like SRH is physically present in Ahmedabad, but mentally still in the Maldives. While we discussed their subpar bowling, the fielding was equally disappointing."

Despite the Maldives trip intended for mental recovery, the team appeared anything but revitalized on the field. Harbhajan Singh also made a sarcastic remark, stating:

"This ball should have been stopped. The fielder dived, but not as effectively as he might have in the Maldives. They likely practiced jumping and diving in swimming pools there, but that skill was missing on the field today."

Pat Cummins Acknowledges Team's Mistakes

Despite a promising start in their chase of 225 runs, Sunrisers never seemed to gain control of the match. Abhishek Sharma's half-century was the only highlight in an otherwise disappointing batting display, which concluded at 186 for 6.

Captain Pat Cummins admitted in the post-match presentation that his team faltered at critical moments.

"Our powerplay bowling was not up to par, allowing them to score 20-30 runs more than they should have. We dropped several catches and were at fault," he stated.

He also commended the Gujarat Titans for their batting performance during the first innings.

"They are skilled batters who play sensibly without taking unnecessary risks."

This defeat marked SRH's seventh loss of the season. With only four matches remaining and just seven points accumulated, their chances of reaching the playoffs are now precariously slim. They are set to face Delhi Capitals on May 5.
