Sunrisers Hyderabad Sets High Target Against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026
Klaasen's Half-Century Fuels SRH's Strong Performance
In a thrilling encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased an impressive batting display, led by Heinrich Klaasen's brilliant half-century, alongside explosive innings from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. This powerful performance enabled SRH to set a formidable target against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Aggressive Start by Head and Sharma
Opting to bat first, SRH's opening pair, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, quickly established dominance, scoring 22 runs without loss in just two overs. In the third over bowled by Vaibhav Arora, they accelerated the score to 43/0, amassing 21 runs.
Abhishek Sharma particularly shone in the fifth over, smashing 25 runs off spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, pushing the total to 71/0. This marked the joint-highest runs conceded by Chakaravarthy in a single over in T20s, matching a previous record against KXIP in 2019.
However, Kartik Tyagi ended the explosive 82-run opening partnership by dismissing Travis Head for 46 runs off 21 balls, which included six fours and three sixes.
KKR's Counterattack in the Middle Overs
After the first powerplay, SRH stood at 84/1, marking their third-best Powerplay score in IPL history, following their 124/0 against Delhi Capitals in 2024 and 94/1 against Rajasthan Royals in 2025.
As the seventh over concluded, SRH's score was 98/1. However, Blessing Muzarabani struck back in the ninth over, claiming two crucial wickets. He dismissed captain Ishan Kishan for 14 runs and then removed Abhishek Sharma, who scored 48 runs off 21 balls, featuring four sixes and four fours.
Anukl Roy followed suit in the next over, taking out Aniket Verma for just 1 run, leaving SRH at 123/4 by the end of the tenth over.
Klaasen's Steadying Influence Leads to a Strong Finish
Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy then stabilized the innings, guiding SRH to a score of 168/4 after 15 overs. In the 18th over, Kartik Tyagi conceded 16 runs, allowing SRH to reach a commanding 200/4.
However, Vaibhav Arora struck back in the next over, taking two wickets in quick succession, dismissing Nitish Reddy for 39 runs off 24 balls and Salil Arora for a golden duck.
Klaasen ultimately finished with a score of 52 runs off 35 balls, helping SRH to a challenging total of 226/8 in their 20 overs. For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani excelled with a four-wicket haul.
