Sunrisers Hyderabad Coach Analyzes Challenging Conditions After Washout Against Delhi Capitals

Post-Match Insights from Daniel Vettori

After the recent washout against Delhi Capitals (DC), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori expressed that the playing conditions in Hyderabad were not as anticipated, describing the surfaces as tricky.

SRH's Struggles in IPL 2024

Despite starting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with an aggressive batting style led by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH concluded the 2025 season with only three victories out of 11 matches, following the rain-affected game against DC.

Vettori Discusses Hyderabad's Playing Conditions

In the post-match press conference, Vettori stated, "I have consistently supported an aggressive approach, but this year’s conditions have been unexpected. Last season saw numerous high-scoring matches here."

He noted that the surfaces this year have been different, making it challenging for batters. "We have focused on assessing conditions and adapting our strategy accordingly. While our players are naturally aggressive, this season has required us to adjust to the day's demands," he added.

Bowling-Friendly Conditions in Hyderabad

Hyderabad has hosted six matches so far, with only four innings surpassing the 200-run mark, compared to seven out of twelve last year. This season has favored bowlers more than batters.

Vettori mentioned that out of the six surfaces, two were conducive to high scores, while the others favored fast bowlers, particularly with the new ball, which has been difficult to hit.

Inconsistency Haunts SRH

With only three wins in ten matches, SRH needed to secure a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. They had managed to restrict DC to a modest total of 133/7, but rain thwarted their chances of claiming two crucial points.

Vettori expressed disappointment over the team's inconsistency, stating, "We entered the season with high expectations, but our performances have not been reliable. Today was a step towards a complete performance, making it frustrating that we couldn't finish it, but that’s cricket."

Pat Cummins' Impact and Mohammed Shami's Form

Captain Pat Cummins showcased his skills with figures of 3/19, taking the first wicket on his opening delivery. Vettori acknowledged Cummins' versatility in different roles, especially in light of Mohammed Shami's struggles this season.

Shami has had a challenging season, with only six wickets in nine matches at an average of 56.16. Vettori explained that Shami was rested based on the conditions and praised Cummins for his adaptability.

Match Summary: SRH vs DC

In the match, DC found themselves at 29/5 before Tristan Stubbs (41* off 36 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26 balls) helped them reach 133/7. Unfortunately, SRH could not chase the target due to rain.

Currently, DC holds the fifth position with six wins and 13 points, while SRH is in eighth place with three wins and seven points.
