Sri Lanka Cricket Sets Fitness Requirements for IPL 2026 Participation
SLC Implements Fitness Protocols
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has declared that players wishing to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 must first pass a mandatory Physical Performance Test to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
As the IPL 2026 approaches, franchises have begun their training camps, but Sri Lankan players have yet to report to their respective teams. In a statement released on March 20, SLC emphasized that participation in IPL 2026 is contingent upon passing the required fitness test.
Ongoing Training and Fitness Assessments
Currently, all players under national contracts are engaged in an eight-week specialized training program, which includes regular fitness assessments. SLC noted, "This initiative is designed to elevate the physical performance standards of players in preparation for future international competitions. Alongside this program, players are undergoing routine physical performance tests to evaluate their fitness levels."
Eligibility for Domestic and IPL Participation
Players who successfully meet the fitness criteria will be eligible for domestic tournaments and will receive an NOC for IPL participation. SLC stated, "Only those who pass the physical performance tests will be allowed to compete in the ongoing domestic tournament and will be granted an NOC for IPL 2026."
Current NOC Status of Players
As per the latest updates, Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, and Kamindu Mendis have successfully passed their tests and received NOCs. Nuwan Thushara's eligibility is pending based on his upcoming test results, while Wanindu Hasaranga, Eshan Malinga, and Matheesha Pathirana are still in rehabilitation and have not yet taken the test. SLC mentioned, "Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, and Kamindu Mendis have been issued NOCs after completing their physical performance tests. Nuwan Thushara's NOC will depend on the results of his test."
Injured Players Awaiting Recovery
Wanindu Hasaranga, Eshan Malinga, and Matheesha Pathirana are currently recovering from injuries and have yet to undergo the Physical Performance Test. SLC confirmed that these players will take the tests once they complete their rehabilitation programs.
