South Africa Triumphs in World Test Championship Final

On June 14, 2025, South Africa ended its lengthy pursuit of an ICC title by defeating Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final held at Lord's. The match concluded with South Africa successfully chasing down a target of 282 runs set by the reigning champions, achieving this in 83.4 overs on the fourth day.


Starting their innings at 213 for 2 after Day 3, South Africa required 69 runs to win. Despite early losses of Temba Bavuma (66) and Tristan Stubbs (8) in the morning session, the team displayed remarkable composure. Aiden Markram's impressive 136 runs brought them closer to victory, while David Bedingham (20*) and Kyle Verreynne (7*) ensured a historic five-wicket win, marking South Africa's first World Test Championship title.
