South Africa Dominates Zimbabwe in Second Test Victory
South Africa Secures Series Win Against Zimbabwe
In a commanding performance, South Africa triumphed over Zimbabwe in the second Test match, winning by an innings and 236 runs at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. This victory allowed them to clinch the two-match series with a 2-0 scoreline, having previously achieved a record 328-run win in the first Test at the same venue.
The Proteas started the third day strongly with their bowling attack. Resuming at 51/1, Zimbabwe struggled to score, managing only 13 runs in the first seven overs of the day. Codi Yusuf was particularly effective, leading the South African pace attack. The first wicket of the evening came from Senuran Muthusamy, who struck in his opening over, dismissing Takudzwanashe Kaitano for 40 runs off 76 balls, just as he was approaching his second Test half-century.
Muthusamy nearly claimed another wicket on the first ball of his third over, but David Bedingham dropped a catch that allowed Zimbabwe to add a few runs. Nick Welch then hit the hosts' first six of the innings. Sean Williams, who had been the standout performer in the first innings, was dismissed cheaply for just 11 runs by Wiaan Mulder.
The match saw little action until the lunch break. Welch, having a disappointing series with only 14 runs in his last three innings, managed to reach his half-century just before the morning session concluded. However, he fell shortly after the break, scoring 55 runs off 126 balls, as Muthusamy took his wicket with ease.
Muthusamy could have secured his third wicket with Wessly Madhevere, but a difficult catch was dropped by substitute fielder Zubayr Hamza. Nevertheless, Madhevere was dismissed in the next over, leading to the exit of wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga after Zimbabwe lost their fifth wicket.
Test debutant Lesego Senokwane, who had a brief outing on the first day, made a significant contribution by taking a catch at short midwicket to dismiss Tsiga for just one run. Craig Ervine was left stranded on 49 runs, just short of his half-century, after being caught by the keeper off Corbin Bosch's bowling.
Ervine's dismissal left Zimbabwe in a precarious position, with Bosch striking again shortly after to remove Kundai Matigimu. The Proteas were now just two wickets away from sealing the match. Bosch's fourth wicket came when he dismissed Blessing Muzarabani, who was out for a duck. Senokwane took his second catch of the match at third slip. The final wicket partnership between Wellington Masakadza (17* off 62) and Tanaka Chivanga (22 off 26) added 36 runs before Muthusamy claimed the last wicket on the third ball of the 78th over.
