Wolvaardt and Luus Shine in Proteas' Win

In a thrilling encounter, South Africa's captain Laura Wolvaardt scored her second consecutive fifty, amassing 54 runs off just 34 balls. Sune Luus also contributed significantly with a solid 57 runs from 46 deliveries, leading the Proteas to a successful chase of 148 runs. The team achieved their target in 17.1 overs, defeating India by 8 wickets in the second T20I held in Durban, thus taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series on Sunday.

The South African openers, Wolvaardt and Luus, started aggressively, aiming to finish the match quickly. They dominated the Indian bowlers right from the beginning, reaching 66 runs without losing a wicket by the end of the powerplay, with Wolvaardt scoring 30 and Luus 34 runs in the initial six overs.

Continuing their strong performance, they reached 92 runs without loss at the halfway mark. Wolvaardt celebrated her second fifty of the series with a boundary, pushing South Africa past the 100-run milestone in the 11th over. India managed to break the opening partnership in the 12th over when Shreyanka Patil dismissed Wolvaardt, but by then, South Africa was well on their way to victory, finishing the match with nearly three overs to spare.

India's Struggles Despite Verma's Efforts

Earlier in the match, India batted first and started strong, despite losing both Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues within the first five overs. Opener Shafali Verma was instrumental in India's quick start, hitting four fours and two sixes to score 37 runs out of India's 58 runs during the powerplay.

Verma formed a vital 53-run partnership with Anushka Sharma for the third wicket, stabilizing the innings. However, Anushka's dismissal in the 13th over left India at 99 for 3. Verma, who reached her fifty in the 10th over, was dismissed shortly after, leading to a collapse as India lost wickets consistently. T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur was run out in the 18th over, and India ultimately managed to post a total of 147 runs before being bowled out.

The next match in the series will see India face South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
