A Hero's Welcome for the Proteas

On June 18, the South African cricket team was greeted like champions at Johannesburg International Airport following their triumph in the World Test Championship 2023-25. They secured the title by defeating Australia by five wickets, marking a significant achievement as it ended a 27-year wait for an ICC trophy. Aiden Markram played a pivotal role in the final, scoring an impressive 136 runs.



Led by captain Temba Bavuma and head coach Shukri Conrad, the team proudly displayed the WTC Mace amidst cheers from the crowd. Their victory at Lord's last Saturday was celebrated with great enthusiasm, as it was their first major ICC title since the 1998 Knockout tournament against the West Indies. Markram's century and Kagiso Rabada's nine-wicket haul were crucial in clinching the match.


The atmosphere at the airport was electric, with fans of all ages celebrating this historic moment. The Proteas' achievement not only lifted spirits but also marked a significant milestone in South African cricket history.


Looking ahead, the South African team is set to compete in a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe starting June 28.
