South Africa Announces Squad for Upcoming Test Series Against Zimbabwe
South Africa's 16-Man Team for Zimbabwe Test Series
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, set to commence on June 28 in Bulawayo. The team features several fresh faces, as some seasoned players have been rested following their preparations for the World Test Championship final against Australia.
A major highlight of the selection is the inclusion of 22-year-old Dewald Brevis, who is poised to make his Test debut. Known for his explosive performances in white-ball formats, Brevis has also excelled in the red-ball domestic circuit, scoring 573 runs in 12 innings during the 2024–25 season.
Joining him is 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who has also earned a spot in the squad due to his impressive domestic performances. The young batsman gained attention with a debut century and followed it up with a determined hundred in the season finale.
In addition to Brevis and Pretorius, three other uncapped players—Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, and Prenelan Subrayen—have been included in the team. This decision by CSA reflects their commitment to providing emerging talent with opportunities at the highest level.
Veteran players such as Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Aiden Markram have been rested, along with Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs. Injured bowlers Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, and Lizaad Williams are currently undergoing rehabilitation and were not considered for selection.
The two Tests will take place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, scheduled from June 28 to July 2 and July 6 to 10. This series presents an excellent opportunity for South Africa's emerging cricketers to showcase their skills.
