Sonal Dinusha's Remarkable Achievement

Sonal Dinusha, a promising batting talent from Sri Lanka, has been awarded the ICC Men's Player of the Month for August 2026. This accolade marks a significant milestone in Dinusha's career, as it is his first recognition of this kind.

Before the ICC World Test Championship series against India, Dinusha had participated in only three Test matches for Sri Lanka. However, he emerged as the top run-scorer in the two-match series, amassing a total of 420 runs at an impressive average of 140, which included three centuries and one half-century.

Dinusha's Reflections on the Honor

Dinusha expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "This recognition means so much to me, especially so early in my career, and I’m truly grateful to the ICC for this honour."

In the first Test against India, despite Sri Lanka's loss by 165 runs, Dinusha showcased his talent by scoring 100 runs in the first innings and 84 in the second. In the second Test, he played a crucial role in securing a draw for his team by scoring centuries in both innings (103 and an unbeaten 133).

A Special Series Against India

Dinusha shared his sentiments about the series against India, saying, "The series against India will always hold a special place in my heart. Scoring three centuries was a dream come true, made even more meaningful by achieving them in Colombo and Galle in front of our home fans. Although we did not get the overall result we hoped for, the way our team fought back in the second match showed the character, belief, and determination we have as a side. I’m proud to have shared that fight with my teammates."

Commitment to Sri Lanka

Having made his Test debut last year during the home series against Bangladesh, Dinusha has quickly made a significant impact in the longest format of the game. He emphasized the importance of representing his country, stating, "Representing Sri Lanka is a privilege I never take for granted, and this recognition gives me even more motivation to keep learning, improving, and contributing to the team. I will continue to give my very best for Sri Lanka in the months and years ahead."

The series concluded with Sri Lanka trailing 1-0, and Dinusha was honored as the Player of the Match in Colombo.
