Mandhana Achieves Top Ranking

On Tuesday, Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana ascended to the top of the ICC Women's ODI player rankings, surpassing South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt to become the world's leading batswoman. Both South African and Irish players have solidified their standings in the ICC Women's ODI rankings. According to the ICC website, South Africa showcased an impressive performance in the first match held in East London, securing a victory by seven wickets. Key contributions came from Sune Luus and Mignon du Preez, who both scored half-centuries, helping the team chase down a target of 210 runs in just 37 overs.


Luus Climbs the Rankings

Thanks to her performance, Luus climbed five spots in the ODI batting rankings, now sharing the 31st position. Meanwhile, Mandhana's score of 811 points remained unchanged, allowing her to overtake Wolvaardt, who managed only 31 runs in the match. Following South Africa's victory over Ireland, Wolvaardt's rating dropped from 814 to 806.


Impressive Performances from Irish Players

Luus also made significant strides in the ODI all-rounders list, moving up ten places to rank 33rd. For the visiting team, Orla Prendergast and Laura Delany were standout performers, with Prendergast climbing to 10th place and Delany to 16th. Prendergast's excellent bowling performance of 1/34 allowed her to rise two spots to 34th in the ODI bowlers' rankings. Additionally, her teammates Arlene Kelly, Kara Murray, and Laura Delany also improved their rankings.


South African Bowlers Shine

Right-arm fast bowler Tumi Sekhukhune took two wickets against Ireland in the opening match, resulting in her moving up seven places to rank 78th among ODI bowlers.
