Mandhana Achieves Milestone in Women's Cricket

In a remarkable achievement, Smriti Mandhana has overtaken New Zealand's Suzie Bates to become the second-highest run-scorer in women's international cricket history. This milestone was reached during the women's Asia Cup opener against Thailand, where Mandhana scored 19 runs off 10 balls, hitting four boundaries.

With this performance, Mandhana's total runs in international cricket now stand at 10,756. She has played 172 T20Is, accumulating 4,557 runs in 166 innings, boasting an average of 30.17 and a strike rate of 125.36, which includes one century and 35 fifties, making her the second-highest run-scorer in T20 format.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), she ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer, having amassed 5,411 runs in 120 matches, with an impressive average of 47.88, featuring 14 centuries and 35 fifties.

Mandhana has also made her mark in Test cricket, scoring 788 runs in nine matches at an average of 52.53, which includes two centuries and five fifties.

Currently, she is just 112 runs away from surpassing her former teammate Mithali Raj, who holds the record with 10,868 runs. Suzie Bates previously had 10,740 runs, followed by Charlotte Edwards from England with 10,273 runs and West Indies' Stefanie Taylor with 10,007 runs.

In the Women's Asia Cup match held in Dubai, India faced Thailand, where despite a stellar half-century from Shafali Verma, the Indian team struggled to post a competitive total. The bowlers from Thailand, especially Suleeporn Laomi and Sunida Chaturongrattana, delivered an impressive performance, limiting India to 159 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

India was in a strong position at 108/2 but suffered a dramatic collapse, losing five wickets for just 28 runs, ending their innings at 136/7.

Shafali Verma was the standout performer for India, scoring 64 runs off 36 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.
