Silchar is gearing up to become a focal point for junior tennis as it prepares to host the State-Level Junior Tennis Ranking Tournament, commencing on December 19. This event will attract talented young athletes from all over Assam.
The tournament is organized by the All-Assam Tennis Association (AATA) and is a key part of their annual junior ranking schedule.
Participants will compete in boys' and girls' singles events across various age categories: Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18.
According to tournament convenor Arup Deb, matches will take place at the Silchar Tennis Club courts over a span of six days, concluding on December 23.
The initiative aims to bolster grassroots tennis by offering young players competitive exposure and a chance to earn essential ranking points. Players from multiple districts in the state are expected to participate, with senior officials from the Assam Tennis Association overseeing the event.
To enhance the tournament's scale and competitiveness, club secretary Debashish Swami announced that the Barak Valley Open Men’s Prize Money Tennis contests will also be included.
He further mentioned that all necessary arrangements, including accommodation and basic amenities for players, have been organized to ensure the tournament runs smoothly.
Club president Mahabir Jain expressed optimism about the event, stating it will highlight emerging talent and provide players from the Barak Valley with a valuable opportunity to connect and learn from their peers across Assam.
