Sikandar Raza Achieves Milestone in T20I Cricket as India Defeats Zimbabwe
Historic Achievement for Sikandar Raza
Sikandar Raza, the captain of Zimbabwe, made headlines by becoming only the second cricketer globally to reach the milestone of 3,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20 internationals. During the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s match against India at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Raza needed just 15 runs to hit the 3,000-run mark. He achieved this remarkable feat by striking a four off Axar Patel on the fourth ball of the 14th over while chasing a target of 257 runs. Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the 17th over, contributing 31 runs from 21 balls, including two fours and two sixes.
Players with 3000 Runs and 100 Wickets in T20Is
Virandeep Singh from Malaysia is the only other player to have scored 3,000 runs and taken 100 wickets in T20 internationals. The 26-year-old has played 111 T20I matches, securing 109 wickets and accumulating 3,180 runs. In contrast, Raza has achieved 3,016 runs and 104 wickets in 132 matches, making him the first Zimbabwean cricketer and the 14th worldwide to surpass the 3,000-run mark in T20Is.
India's Dominant Victory Over Zimbabwe
This match was crucial for both teams, as they were looking to bounce back after previous defeats. With South Africa's victory over the West Indies, hopes were high for Zimbabwe to qualify for the semi-finals. However, India secured a convincing 72-run victory, eliminating Zimbabwe from the tournament. Batting first, India set a formidable total of 256/4, marking the second-highest score in the tournament's history, thanks to fifties from Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma, along with significant contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. The Zimbabwean team struggled to chase the 257-run target, finishing at 184/6. Brian Bennett's impressive unbeaten 97 runs were not enough to secure a win, while Arshdeep Singh led India's bowling attack with three wickets.
