Shubman Gill's Stellar Performance in 2025

In a remarkable display of talent, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has emerged as the only Indian player to surpass 1,000 international runs in 2025, following his impressive performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Gill's tour of England was nothing short of spectacular, both as a leader and a batsman. He silenced critics who labeled him a 'flat track bully' by achieving significant scores outside Asia. Before this series, his last notable score beyond Asia was a memorable 91 against Australia in Brisbane back in 2021. His recent success has solidified his position at number four, a spot once held by cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Throughout the Test series, Gill amassed an impressive 754 runs at an average of 75.40, including four centuries, with his highest score being 269. He finished as the leading run-scorer in a thrilling series that concluded in a 2-2 draw, showcasing some exceptional Test cricket.

This year, Gill has accumulated 1,234 runs across 14 matches and 20 innings, boasting an average of 64.94, which includes six centuries—the highest by any player this year—and two fifties. He ranks as the second-highest run-scorer overall, trailing England's Ben Duckett, who has 1,290 runs in 23 matches at an average of 47.77, with three centuries and eight fifties.

Among his Indian counterparts, KL Rahul has scored 741 runs in 14 matches at an average of 46.31, while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has 605 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 67.22.

In six Tests this year, Gill has scored 787 runs at an average of 65.58, maintaining a strike rate of 64.03, with four centuries and a best score of 269.

His prowess extends to ODIs as well, where he has scored 447 runs in eight matches at an average of 63.85, including two centuries and two fifties, with a top score of 112. Notably, he has yet to participate in T20Is this year. His standout ODI performance was during the ICC Champions Trophy, where he scored 188 runs at an average of 47.00, including a century in five innings.

Since establishing himself as a regular in the Indian team in 2023, Gill has been the leading run-scorer globally across all formats, amassing 4,577 runs in 85 matches at an average of 48.17, with 16 centuries and 17 fifties. His highest score remains 269. Following him are Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis and England's Joe Root, who have also made significant contributions in their respective careers.
