Shubman Gill Returns as Vice-Captain for T20 Series Against South Africa
Shubman Gill's Comeback
Raipur: Shubman Gill is set to return as vice-captain for the upcoming T20 International series against South Africa after successfully recovering from a neck injury. This injury had sidelined him from the current ODI series, as confirmed by a source from the BCCI on Wednesday.
Gill, who leads India in Test and ODI formats, suffered the injury during the first Test match against South Africa in Kolkata. Consequently, he missed the second Test in Guwahati and the subsequent ODI matches.
Now fully healed, Gill will rejoin the team as vice-captain, according to the BCCI source.
The announcement regarding the squad for the five-match T20 series, which kicks off on December 9 in Cuttack, is expected later today. Suryakumar Yadav will continue to serve as the regular T20I captain for India.
Additionally, the source dismissed rumors about a planned meeting involving senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, regarding alleged tensions within the dressing room.
No discussions will occur during the series; any necessary actions will be considered after its conclusion, the source added.
