Gill's Insights on Playing with Cricket Legends

Vadodara: Shubman Gill, the captain of India's ODI team, expressed his excitement about sharing the field with cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who continue to excel in the 50-over format both domestically and internationally.

The Indian squad is gearing up to take on New Zealand in a three-match ODI series, commencing this Sunday at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara. This match marks the return of Rohit and Kohli to the national team, while Gill resumes his captaincy role after missing the previous series against South Africa.

"When you mention these two players, one is arguably the greatest ODI opener ever (Rohit), and Virat bhai is among the finest ODI batsmen in history. Having them in the team certainly simplifies things for me," Gill remarked during a pre-match press conference.

"In challenging situations, they have faced similar circumstances numerous times, so I can always seek their advice on what to do next. Their insights are incredibly valuable for any captain," he added.

Recently, Rohit and Kohli showcased their skills in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, each scoring centuries for their respective state teams, Mumbai and Delhi. Notably, Kohli's century against Andhra Pradesh made him the fastest player to achieve 16,000 List A runs, and he is now just two centuries shy of matching Sachin Tendulkar's record of 60 List A hundreds.

Discussing the team environment fostered by Kohli and Rohit, Gill stated, "The atmosphere in the dressing room is fantastic. These players have been part of this environment for years and consistently strive to elevate Indian cricket. Their recent performances in the last series were impressive, contributing to a positive team spirit right now."

Following the first ODI in Vadodara, the teams will head to Rajkot for the second match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, with the series concluding on January 18 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
