Shubman Gill Discusses On-Field Tensions in GT's Win

Shubman Gill spoke about the intense moments that occurred during the Gujarat Titans' 38-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad. The GT captain showed visible frustration during the 14th over of SRH's innings after a contentious LBW review involving Abhishek Sharma.

The situation arose when a delivery hit Abhishek on his boot, leading Gill and his teammates to appeal. However, the on-field umpire ruled it not out, prompting the Titans to request a DRS review. Unfortunately, the replays did not capture the ball's pitching point, only showing the impact and wicket zone, which seemed to agitate Gill.

Following this, a heated exchange took place between Gill and the umpire, causing a temporary pause in the game. Abhishek had to intervene to help calm his teammate. Although Gill quickly regained his composure and continued playing, his passionate response left fans intrigued.

“There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved, and as you give your 110 per cent, there are bound to be some emotions,” Gill stated during the post-match presentation.

“We are all eager and hungry for runs”: Gill on GT’s record-setting batting effort

Despite the DRS controversy, Gujarat's batting performance was the highlight of the match. The top order excelled, propelling the team to a score of 224/6.

Gill led the charge with an impressive 76 runs off 38 balls, while his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, contributed 48 runs from 23 balls. After Sudharsan's dismissal, Jos Buttler took over, scoring 64 runs off 37 balls. Remarkably, the team only recorded 22 dot balls throughout their innings.

“Definitely didn't plan that (on playing just 22 dot balls in 20 overs). The only conversation was let's try to play the game we have been playing so far. The black soil pitch is not easy to hit sixes, but the way Sai, Jos, and I play, I think we have an understanding of how to keep the scoreboard ticking,” he explained.

Gill further emphasized that there is no pressure on any individual player to anchor the innings, as they all share a collective desire to contribute.

“I don't think we have ever had that conversation where one of us has to be there. We are all eager and hungry for runs and do what is best for the team.”

With this victory, GT climbed to second place in the points table, boasting 7 wins from 10 matches. Conversely, SRH must win all their remaining four matches to keep their playoff hopes alive.
