Injury Update on Rishabh Pant
Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill has shared an update regarding the injury of vice-captain Rishabh Pant. Pant sustained an injury while keeping wickets on the first day of the Lord's Test, which prevented him from continuing in that role. Consequently, Dhruv Jurel took over the wicketkeeping duties for the remainder of the match.
During a post-match press conference, Gill reassured fans that Pant's finger injury is not severe. He mentioned that Pant underwent scans and there is no significant damage, indicating that he should recover in time for the fourth Test in Manchester. This match is scheduled to take place from July 23 to July 27 at Old Trafford.
Pant injured his left index finger while attempting to catch a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah during England's first innings. The incident occurred while diving to stop a ball on the leg side during the 34th over of the innings in the second session of the first day.
Despite managing to get a hand on the ball, Pant was unable to fully stop it and was seen in visible pain. The game was paused for a brief period as the Indian support staff attended to his injury. After Bumrah's over concluded, Pant left the field.
Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Pant had injured his left index finger and is currently receiving treatment under medical supervision. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel continues to fulfill the wicketkeeping responsibilities.
