Shubman Gill's Remarkable Achievement

Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill's remarkable double century at Edgbaston will be a lasting memory, as he was honored as the ICC Player of the Month for his impressive tally of 754 runs in the recent five-Test series against England.

Gill showcased his leadership and batting prowess, scoring four centuries while guiding a young Indian squad that was without stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to a 2-2 draw against England. He expressed his gratitude for receiving the award, which he won over England's Ben Stokes and South Africa's Wiaan Mulder, and shared his aspirations to maintain his excellent form in the upcoming season.

"Being named the ICC Player of the Month for July is a tremendous honor, especially as it reflects my performances during my inaugural Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is a cherished memory and a highlight of my England tour," Gill remarked.

He further noted, "The Test series against England was a valuable learning experience for me as a captain, and both teams delivered outstanding performances that will be remembered for years to come."

Gill expressed his appreciation to the jury for the recognition and to his teammates for their support throughout the thrilling series. He is eager to continue his successful run and bring more accolades to the nation.

With this latest accolade, Gill has become the first male cricketer to win the Player of the Month award four times, having previously won it in January and September of 2023, as well as February 2025.

His exceptional performance in England included scoring 567 runs (out of his total 754) at an impressive average of 94.50 across three Tests in July. Notably, he amassed 430 runs in the second Test at Birmingham, marking the second-highest aggregate in a Test match.

His innings of 269 and 161 in that match were pivotal in leveling the series at 1-1. Additionally, he contributed a crucial 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester, which helped secure a draw and keep the series competitive.
