Shubman Gill Makes History with Double Century in England Test

Historic Achievement by Shubman Gill
On Thursday, during the second Test match at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill etched his name in history as the first Indian and Asian captain to achieve a double century in a Test match held in England.
With this remarkable feat, he also set a new record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman on English soil, surpassing the previous record of 221 runs set by Sunil Gavaskar at the Oval in 1979.
Prior to Gill's achievement, the highest score by an Indian captain in a SENA country was 192 runs, accomplished by Mohammed Azharuddin against New Zealand in Auckland in 1990.
Gill, who had previously scored 147 runs in his debut match as Test captain at Leeds, reached his double century by pulling a delivery from Josh Tongue to deep fine leg for a single.
It took him 311 balls to reach this milestone, placing him in the esteemed company of Indian cricket legends like MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni, all of whom have also scored double centuries as captains.
Virat Kohli remains the record holder for the most double centuries as captain for India, with seven to his name.
In his innings, Gill struck an impressive 21 fours and two sixes, becoming only the third Indian batsman to score a double century in England, following the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid.
