Shubman Gill Makes History as First Asian Test Captain to Score Double Century in England

Historic Achievement for Shubman Gill
Birmingham: In a remarkable feat, Shubman Gill has etched his name in cricket history as the first Indian and Asian captain to achieve a double century in a Test match held in England. This milestone was reached on the second day of the second Test at Edgbaston on Thursday.
Previously, the highest score by an Asian in England was 193, set by Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan at Lord's in 2011.
Gill, who debuted as Test captain with a score of 147 at Leeds, secured his first double hundred in the traditional format by nudging a delivery from Josh Tongue to deep fine leg for a single.
It took him 311 balls to reach this significant score, placing him among the elite group of Indian captains, including MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni, who have all scored double centuries.
Virat Kohli leads the record for Indian captains with seven double centuries.
Before Gill's achievement, the highest score by an Indian captain in a SENA country was 192, accomplished by Mohammed Azharuddin against New Zealand in Auckland back in 1990.
Azharuddin's 179 in Manchester during the same year was the top score by an Indian captain in England.
During his innings, Gill hit 21 fours and two sixes, becoming the third Indian batsman to score a double century in England, following the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid.
