Historic Achievement by Shubman Gill
On July 13, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill achieved a remarkable milestone on English soil, surpassing a 23-year-old record held by former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. Gill has now become the player with the highest runs for India in a Test series played in England.
In the ongoing Test series, Gill has amassed a total of 603 runs across six innings from three matches. Previously, in 2002, Rahul Dravid scored 602 runs in a four-match series against England, making him the highest run-scorer for India in Test series in England. However, Gill has now eclipsed that record with his impressive performance.
During the second innings of the Lord's Test, Gill managed to score just 2 runs, but it was enough to break Dravid's long-standing record on the last ball of the 13th over.
For India, the record for the most runs scored as a captain in a Test series is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who accumulated 732 runs in six Tests against the West Indies in 1978-79. Gill now has a fantastic opportunity to surpass both Kohli and Gavaskar's records.
Virat Kohli, as captain, scored 655 runs in five matches against England in 2016 and 610 runs in three matches against Sri Lanka in 2017.
