Shubman Gill Becomes Second-Fastest to 3,000 ODI Runs

Shubman Gill, the captain of India's Test and ODI teams, has made history by becoming the second-fastest player to score 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He reached this impressive milestone in just 62 innings during the first match of a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan held in Dharamsala on Saturday. Gill played a crucial role in the match, scoring an unbeaten 84 runs off 66 balls, which included eight fours and two sixes, leading India to a convincing seven-wicket victory in a rain-affected game. He achieved the 3,000-run mark in the 13th over of India's innings, bringing his total to 3,037 runs in 62 ODI innings.

India Claims Victory in the First ODI

In the opening match against Afghanistan, India secured a seven-wicket win, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Afghanistan's Performance

In a match reduced to 25 overs per side due to rain, debutants Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey excelled with three wickets each, helping to bowl Afghanistan out for 194 runs in 24.5 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer for Afghanistan, scoring a remarkable 102 runs off just 51 balls, forming a 116-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, who contributed 27 runs. However, after Gurbaz's dismissal, Afghanistan struggled to maintain momentum and lost regular wickets.

India's Chase

In pursuit of 195 runs, India was guided by Gill's unbeaten 84 runs, while Ishan Kishan added 34 runs and KL Rahul finished with 39 runs off just 19 balls. Gill and Rahul formed an unbroken partnership of 53 runs, successfully leading India to victory in 22.5 overs.
