Sharma Remains in Top-10; Sandhu Fails to Qualify
Despite encountering three bogeys in the final six holes, Shubhankar Sharma secured a spot in the top-10 at the Omega European Masters. The 30-year-old golfer, who has won twice on the DP World Tour, recorded three birdies on each side of the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, finishing with a score of 2-under 68. Combined with his impressive first-round score of 6-under 64, he stands at 8-under, tied for eighth place with two rounds remaining.
On the other hand, Yuvraj Sandhu, representing India, delivered an impressive 5-under 65, marking a significant 12-shot improvement from his initial round of 77. Unfortunately, this performance was not enough to secure his place for the weekend rounds.
For Sharma, every tournament is critical as he aims to climb from 179th to within the Top 100, which is essential for earning a card for the 2027 season.
Defending Champion Lawrence Takes the Lead
Thriston Lawrence from South Africa showcased an exceptional second round, scoring 63 to take a two-stroke lead. The defending champion, who started the day just one shot behind, exhibited a flawless performance at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, achieving seven birdies and reaching a total of 13 under par after 36 holes.
Impressive Round in the Mountains
Lawrence began his round on the tenth tee and demonstrated patience, waiting until the par-three 13th hole for his first birdie. He quickly found his rhythm, with a birdie at the 16th igniting a streak of six consecutive birdies, allowing the 29-year-old to pull ahead of his competitors and assert his dominance in the mountainous terrain.
A crucial par save on the fifth hole, where he holed his fourth shot from a bunker after a previous putting attempt failed, helped maintain his momentum. The five-time DP World Tour winner concluded his round with a series of pars, finishing with a clean scorecard. Heading into the weekend, Lawrence is well-positioned to secure his third title, having won by two strokes last year, adding to his 2022 victory and becoming a two-time champion in Crans-Montana.
Elvira and Paul Lead the Pursuers
Nacho Elvira equaled his best round in over three years with a score of 62, placing him two shots behind and tied for second with Germany's Jeremy Paul. Keita Nakajima played a bogey-free round, finishing with a score of 63, securing outright fourth place. Meanwhile, Rafa Cabrera Bello, who has been using clubs that previously belonged to Adam Scott due to his own set not arriving in Crans-Montana, shares fifth place with China's Ashun Wu and England's Paul Casey.
