Dubai: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March, following his impressive contributions to India's Champions Trophy victory.

Iyer emerged as the top run-scorer in the ODI tournament, amassing a total of 243 runs, which helped him clinch the prestigious award, surpassing competitors like Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand.

"It’s a great honor to be recognized as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This award holds special significance, particularly as it coincides with our ICC Champions Trophy win — a moment I will always treasure," Iyer expressed in an official ICC statement.

"Contributing to India's success on such a grand stage is a dream for every cricketer. I am thankful to my teammates, coaches, and support staff for their constant encouragement and belief in me.

"A big thank you to the fans as well — your support and enthusiasm motivate us every step of the way."

With this achievement, India has now secured the award consecutively, as Shubman Gill was honored for February.

Iyer's ability to navigate through the middle overs with his elegant stroke-play and skill in building crucial partnerships was instrumental in India's triumphant campaign.

The 30-year-old recorded 172 runs in three matches during March, boasting an average of 57.33 and a strike rate of 77.47, highlighted by several outstanding performances.

He scored 79 runs off 98 balls, including four fours and two sixes, in a Group A match against New Zealand, helping India set a competitive total of 250 on a challenging pitch.

In the semi-finals, he contributed 45 runs off 62 balls to aid India's successful chase against Australia, and concluded the tournament with a solid 48 runs off 62 balls in the final against New Zealand.
