Shreyas Iyer's Return to Cricket

Star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has received conditional approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at their Bengaluru Center of Excellence. Iyer is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the Australia tour in October 2025. According to reports, he is expected to make his comeback in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), having been granted permission to play for Mumbai. Iyer is anticipated to participate in the sixth phase of matches on January 6 in Jaipur, where Mumbai will face Himachal Pradesh.

Iyer's Rehabilitation Progress

To complete the final phase of his rehabilitation, Iyer spent ten days at the Center of Excellence. As part of his return process, he participated in a practice match on January 2, where he batted without any pain and completed all pre- and post-match drills without issues. During Iyer's absence, Ruturaj Gaikwad batted at number four in the ODI series against South Africa last year, scoring his maiden century in this format.

The Indian ODI team for the upcoming series against New Zealand will also be announced on Saturday. In a conversation with media representatives, the BCCI secretary confirmed that the Indian cricket selection committee will meet on Saturday to finalize the squad.
