Pro Women’s Doubles Silver Medalists

Shreya Chakraborty and Rachael Jones achieved a commendable silver medal in the Pro Women’s Doubles at the Queens on Court Women’s Day Tournament, a PWR 200 event recognized by the Indian Pickleball Association and the Maharashtra Pickleball Association. This event took place at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on March 8. The pair advanced to the finals after a solid victory over Shefali Bhatt and Urvi Abhyankar, winning 15-8 in the second semi-final. They showcased excellent teamwork to secure their spot in the championship match.

In the final showdown, they faced off against Priyanka Mehta and Mihika Yadav, who clinched the title with a close 15-12 victory. After their runner-up finish, Shreya and Rachael shared their thoughts on their first-time partnership and the importance of competing on Women’s Day. “This was our first time teaming up, although we train together daily in Kolkata. We are both from Kolkata, not Mumbai,” they expressed.

“We were thrilled to participate here, especially on Women’s Day. It was inspiring to see so many women competing. Such participation is not always common, making it very encouraging,” they added. Shreya reflected on their performance, noting the narrow loss in the final. “We are pleased with how we played, especially since it was our first tournament together. It stings a bit to be so close to winning,” she remarked. “Playing with Rachael is always enjoyable, especially when you get to share the court with friends.”

Rachael shared similar feelings, emphasizing that competing in a new city added to the experience. “Shreya covered most of it. I agree with everything she said,” Rachael stated. “I really enjoyed playing in Mumbai and competing against strong players like Priyanka and Mihika, who are among the best in India right now.”

“We fell short by a narrow margin, but we are satisfied with the outcome. We had fun, which is what truly matters. We hope to do better next time.” Additionally, Chakraborty secured another podium finish at the tournament, having previously won gold in the Split Age 35+ event, while Jones concluded her participation with a silver medal in the Pro Women’s Doubles category.
