Shaurya Binu, a unique talent who has successfully balanced his studies with golf, has been excelling on the African Swing, achieving Top-10 finishes in the past two weeks. He maintained this momentum with an impressive 9-under 64, placing him at the top after two rounds in the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational Congo.
At just 22 years old, Binu is pursuing a BBA degree at Kalinga University. He started with a 1-under 72 in the first round at the Par-73 Golf Club Lubumbashi and then surged ahead with a remarkable 9-under score, totaling 10-under for 36 holes. He currently leads by two strokes over four competitors, according to an IGPL press release.

Trailing Binu are four players, including first-round co-leaders Mannat Brar (67-71) and Tushar Pannu (67-71), last week's champion Udayan Mane (70-68), and Aryan Roopa Anand (71-67), all sitting at 8-under after two rounds.
Binu's Background and Performance
Binu's name, 'Shaurya,' translates to 'Brave,' reflecting his father's background as a decorated Army officer. Since turning professional in 2023, he has showcased an aggressive style of play and has already celebrated a victory on the Indian Tour. This year, he has shown consistent improvement with a seventh-place finish in Mauritius and a T-4 in Joburg, feeling optimistic about securing his first AM Green IGPL win. Last season, his best result was T-3 in Chandigarh.

Starting from the first tee, Binu took a moment to secure his first birdie on the Par-4 fourth hole, then gained momentum with three consecutive birdies from the sixth hole, finishing the front nine with an eagle on the ninth. He turned at 6-under and maintained his form on the back nine, scoring birdies on three of the last four holes after a series of five pars.
