In a bid to secure a spot in India's team for the upcoming Pickleball World Cup, Sharmada Balu showcased an impressive performance at the Picklebay Zonals North, winning the 30+ Women's Open title at Horizon X Courtplay. This tournament, sanctioned by the PWR 700 Indian Pickleball Association, holds significant importance as it serves as the selection trials for professional players ahead of the World Cup scheduled in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 30 to September 6.

Balu maintained complete control during both the semifinals and finals, triumphing over Danielle with scores of 11-2 and 11-3. Despite her commanding victory, Balu emphasized that there was no complex strategy behind her success. "I focused on my strengths and played to my advantages. My aim was to hit the ball effectively, make my opponents move, and keep my game straightforward," she explained.

Feeling confident on the court, Balu capitalized on her momentum, stating, "I played freely today." Although the score indicated a lopsided match, she admitted to not fixating on the numbers. "I tried to avoid thinking about the score and concentrated on each shot instead," she noted when asked if she aimed for an 11-0 finish.

Reflecting on her performance, Balu remarked, "It was a fantastic day. I felt great, and while the score was favorable, I didn't dwell on it during the match. I believe that mindset contributed to my positive outcome." This victory places Balu in a strong position as she vies for a spot in the World Cup team, yet she remains grounded about her approach. "In pickleball, anything can happen. Each match is unique, and so is each day," she stated.

Her focus now is to maintain her current momentum, perform well in singles, and most importantly, enjoy her time on the court. "That's what it ultimately comes down to," she concluded. With the pressure mounting and World Cup opportunities at stake, Balu's impressive showing in Gurgaon has bolstered her chances as she aims to carry her winning streak onto the international stage.
