American sprinting sensation Sha'Carri Richardson has received an invitation to participate in the women's 100m event at the first-ever World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. This marks her return to the venue where she clinched her first world title two years ago.

Richardson shared the news via her Instagram stories on Tuesday, with the three-day event scheduled from September 11 to 13 at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, as reported by Olympics.com.

At 26 years old, Richardson is returning to a place where she made history by setting a championship record of 10.65 seconds to win the women's 100m title during the 2023 World Championships. Additionally, she played a crucial role in securing gold for the United States in the 4x100m relay.

Qualification Journey

Richardson did not gain an automatic entry into the Ultimate Championship through the two direct qualification routes. She finished second to Julien Alfred in the 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympics and placed fifth at the 2025 World Championships held in Tokyo.

Despite this, she remains one of the top sprinters globally and qualifies through the ranking route.

On July 24, she secured her third US 100m title at Icahn Stadium in New York, clocking in at 10.77 seconds, which is the fastest time recorded by an American woman in the event this year.

Currently, Richardson ranks fourth in the world, bolstering her chances for a spot at this prestigious season-ending event.

Details on the Ultimate Championship

The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship will showcase approximately 360 athletes competing in 28 events over three evening sessions.

Automatic invitations were granted to champions from the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2025 World Championships, with additional spots available for Diamond League Final winners, top-ranked athletes post-qualification, and special invitees.

The qualification window closes on September 1, and World Athletics will announce the final entries on September 7.

Richardson's anticipated participation in Budapest is expected to heighten the excitement surrounding the 100m event, providing her with a chance to return to the track where she delivered one of her career's standout performances.
