SG Pipers Women Gear Up for Hockey India League 2025-26 in Ranchi
SG Pipers Women Prepare for Upcoming Hockey India League
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], December 20: The SG Pipers women's hockey team has arrived in Ranchi with a renewed sense of determination as they prepare for the Hockey India League 2025-26, set to take place from December 28, 2025, to January 10, 2026, according to a statement from the team.
With their focus sharpened and sticks ready, the team's arrival signifies the beginning of a pivotal period in what is expected to be an intense tournament. Leading the charge is Head Coach Sofie Gierts, who has joined the squad in Ranchi, alongside Indian hockey legend and former captain Helen Mary, who will provide valuable support.
Gierts' presence is expected to bring much-needed clarity and structure, especially as the competition will be fierce and every moment counts. The Pipers enter the league with a strong record from recent international matches.
At the forefront is captain Navneet Kaur, who achieved the milestone of over 200 international caps in 2025, solidifying her reputation as one of the most seasoned attackers in Indian hockey. Throughout the past year, she has consistently performed in high-pressure situations, leading the offensive line and setting a competitive tone in the attacking zone.
Defensively, Udita stands as a key player after an outstanding season, having been named Player of the Tournament at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025. She showcased her dual capabilities by combining solid defensive skills with offensive contributions, netting three goals from penalty corners while managing crucial defensive tasks against top-tier teams.
The squad is a blend of international talent, featuring players from various hockey-playing nations. This diversity not only enhances the team's depth across different positions but also provides tactical flexibility, which is essential in a league where recovery time is minimal and adaptability can determine success.
After joining the team in Ranchi, head coach Sofie expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s wonderful to be part of such a talented group, especially in a city like Ranchi that is passionate about hockey. The team is well-balanced, and everyone is eager to begin. Our mix of international players will be one of our greatest strengths. Our focus now is to start our preparations correctly and ensure we are united and ready for the league's kickoff on the 28th.”
Captain Navneet Kaur also shared her thoughts ahead of the season, saying, “The preparations have been encouraging, and there’s a strong sense of clarity and confidence among the players. Everyone is motivated, focused, and excited about the challenges ahead.”
The SG Pipers women have a clear objective this season. After analyzing past performances, they aim to enhance their execution, seize crucial moments in both attacking and defensive circles, and maintain competitiveness throughout every quarter.
With the league returning to Ranchi, the Pipers are determined to make a strong comeback and convert their preparations into points when the competition begins.
