Seth Rollins Set to Face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2206 for World Heavyweight Championship
Main Event Showdown at SummerSlam
Seth Rollins is gearing up to challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in the highly anticipated main event of SummerSlam 2206. This match marks Rollins' return to title contention after he had to vacate the championship due to an injury sustained at Crown Jewel 2025. Initially, Rollins was scheduled to defend his title against Reigns at WrestleMania 42, but his injury led to a change in plans, allowing CM Punk to step in as champion. Punk eventually lost the title to Reigns after a series of successful defenses against Jacob Fatu.
Fans are also curious about Dean Ambrose, who now competes in AEW under the name Jon Moxley. Ambrose was part of The Shield alongside Reigns and Rollins, making their WWE debut together at Survivor Series 2014. However, Rollins betrayed the group in June 2014, leading to all three members achieving world champion status. Ambrose departed WWE in 2019 to join AEW, where he has been active ever since.
Why Ambrose's Return to WWE is Unlikely
Ambrose signed a five-year contract with AEW in October 2022, which restricts him from working with other promotions until 2027, although he can appear in events where AEW sends its talent. Given the competitive nature of AEW and WWE, their relationship has become strained, with no recent collaborations. Ambrose made his AEW debut at Double or Nothing 2019 and has held the AEW World Championship. Meanwhile, Rollins and Reigns remain integral to WWE, making their release highly improbable.
