Heightened Security Measures for Upcoming FIFA Event

As the FIFA Club World Cup approaches this weekend at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, security tensions are escalating. It has been announced that agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be present at the venue to ensure safety during the event.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented on the deployment of federal agents, stating he has no concerns. He emphasized, “We are always highly attentive to security matters. The safety of the fans attending the matches is our top priority,” Infantino remarked.

On Wednesday, a promotional event organized by Telemundo took an unexpected turn when a boat carrying FIFA officials and Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard and CBP officers at sea. Reports indicate that the vessel was detained for nearly an hour while officials verified the captain’s immigration credentials.

Local immigration advocate Thomas Kennedy reported that journalists aboard confirmed the immigration check, although a spokesperson from the U.S. Coast Guard later claimed that the stop was not related to immigration enforcement.

Following this incident, Telemundo opted to cancel the event altogether.
