Sean Williams Shines with Historic Century in Test Against South Africa

Williams Achieves Milestone in Test Match
Bulawayo [Zimbabwe], June 29: Sean Williams made a significant mark in cricket history by scoring his sixth Test century during the second day of the opening Test against South Africa at Queens Sports Club on Sunday.
In response to South Africa's formidable first innings total of 418/9, Williams emerged as Zimbabwe's key player with the bat. He has now matched the records of Brendon Taylor and Grant Flower, each having six Test centuries for Zimbabwe. Andy Flower holds the record with 12 Test centuries.
The 38-year-old left-hander played a crucial role in stabilizing Zimbabwe's innings, forming a 96-run partnership with captain Craig Ervine. After Keshav Maharaj stumped Ervine for 36 runs off 90 balls, Ervine continued to battle against South Africa's bowling attack.
Williams' impressive innings came to an end when Maharaj deceived him in the air, leading to a stumping by Kyle Verreynne after he scored 137 runs off 164 balls. Following Ervine's dismissal, Zimbabwe's innings faltered, concluding at 251 runs.
South Africa maintained an aggressive strategy despite losing Matthew Breetzke early for just 1 run off 6 balls. Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder kept the momentum going, finishing the day at 49/1 with a commanding lead of 216 runs.
In addition to Williams' remarkable performance, Maharaj made history by becoming the first spinner to achieve 200 Test wickets for South Africa. He claimed the wicket of Zimbabwe's captain, marking his 200th Test scalp and joining an elite group of South African bowlers.
Maharaj is now the ninth South African to reach the 200 Test wickets milestone, joining legends like Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, and Kagiso Rabada.
Codi Yusuf and Wiaan Mulder also excelled with the ball, with Yusuf taking 3 wickets for 42 runs and Mulder finishing with 4 wickets for 50 runs in 16 overs, maintaining an economy rate of 3.10.
