Sarfaraz Khan Sets New Record with Fastest List-A Fifty in Indian Cricket
Sarfaraz Khan's Record-Breaking Performance
Sarfaraz Khan, a prominent figure in domestic cricket, has once again captured attention with his aggressive style. During the seventh round of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Punjab, he achieved a remarkable feat by scoring a half-century in just 15 balls, establishing a new record for Indian List-A cricket. This achievement is recognized as the fastest List-A fifty by an Indian batsman, surpassing the previous record.
Previously, the record was jointly held by Abhijit Kale from Maharashtra and Baroda's all-rounder Atit Sheth, who both completed their fifties in 16 balls. Notably, Sarfaraz's innings is now the fourth-fastest fifty in the history of List-A cricket.
In the match held at the Jaipur School Ground, Punjab batted first, setting a target of 216 runs. Mumbai started their chase positively, with openers Mushir Khan and Angkrish Raghuwanshi adding 57 runs for the first wicket. After Mushir's dismissal, Sarfaraz took to the crease and quickly dominated Punjab's bowlers.
He initially turned the game around by hitting three sixes and three fours off Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma in a single over. He also targeted left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar, scoring 19 runs off just five balls. However, after a blistering innings of 62 runs off 20 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes, he was dismissed LBW by Mayank Markande.
Despite Sarfaraz's historic innings, Mumbai could not secure victory. At one point, they were at 169 runs for three wickets in the 18th over, but after the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, the team faced a sudden collapse. Shivam Dube and captain Shreyas Iyer also fell quickly, putting the team under pressure in the final overs. Mumbai needed 16 runs in the last over but fell short by just one run.
Currently, Sarfaraz Khan is the leading run-scorer for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, amassing 303 runs in six innings with an impressive average of over 75 and a strike rate close to 190. He previously scored a significant 157 runs against Goa and has also made a half-century against Uttarakhand. Mumbai has already secured a spot in the knockout stage of the tournament.
Recent reports indicate that Sarfaraz is in exceptional form. He last played a Test match for India against New Zealand in November 2024. In the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was also Mumbai's second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 329 runs in seven matches. Notably, he was acquired by Chennai Super Kings for a base price of 75 lakhs in the IPL 2026 auction, suggesting that his current form could benefit franchise cricket as well.
