India Aims for Victory in Fifth Test

New Delhi [India], July 29: Former cricketer Sarandeep Singh is confident that India will triumph over England in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, thereby leveling the series.

As the series stands with India trailing 1-2 after four Tests, both teams are set to clash in London for the final match starting July 31.

Singh expressed his views on England's bowling attack, describing it as subpar and incapable of dismissing Indian batsmen in both innings.

“I believe India will win this Test match and equal the series. England's situation is quite dire. Even after establishing a significant lead, they struggled to get rid of the Indian batsmen. Their bowling lacks the quality needed to dismiss our players twice,” Singh remarked.

Despite England's substantial first-innings lead of 311, India managed to secure a remarkable draw at Old Trafford in Manchester, keeping the series competitive.

Singh suggested that India should include spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the decisive match, as the dry pitch at The Oval is favorable for spin bowling.

“The Oval pitch is advantageous for the Indian team due to its dryness, which provides ample spin. Kuldeep Yadav deserves this chance,” he added.

Kuldeep Yadav has yet to play in the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, having participated in 13 Tests overall, where he has taken 56 wickets at an average of 22.16.

He has only played one Test in England, which was back in 2018, where he did not take any wickets.

Singh also commended Jasprit Bumrah, the World No.1 Test bowler, for his consistent performance over the past decade.

“Jasprit Bumrah is among the fittest players across all formats. He has been a pillar for this team for the last ten to twelve years. Injuries can affect fast bowlers, but he never backs down. Bumrah will continue to play for India for a long time,” Singh stated.

In the ongoing series, Bumrah has been the standout bowler for India, claiming 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, with an average of 26.00 and an economy rate of 3.04.

India is determined to secure a win in the fifth Test at The Oval to level the series and share the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
