Saptak Talwar Shines at English Open, Finishes Tied 12th
Talwar's Stellar Performance
Saptak Talwar delivered an outstanding performance at the English Open on the HotelPlanner Tour, finishing tied for 12th place, just missing a top-10 finish. The 27-year-old golfer concluded the tournament with a four-under 68, bringing his total to 10-under-par for the week, only one stroke away from a share of seventh place after a remarkable final round at The Vale Golf Club.
Best Finish Outside India
This achievement marks Talwar's best result outside of India and his second-best overall this season, following his runner-up finish at the DP World PGTI Open in March.
Final Round Highlights
Starting the last day tied for 24th at six-under, Talwar surged up the leaderboard with his strongest round of the tournament. He recorded five birdies and only one bogey, scoring on the second, 11th, 13th, 15th, and 17th holes. Although a birdie on the final 18th hole would have secured him a top-10 finish, he settled for par, ending the tournament tied for 12th.
Consistent Play Throughout the Week
Talwar began the tournament with a three-under 69, followed by rounds of 71 and 70, keeping him in contention for the final round. His closing 68 showcased a promising return to form as he prepares for upcoming events on the HotelPlanner Tour.
Catlin Triumphs in Dramatic Playoff
The tournament concluded with American John Catlin winning his first HotelPlanner Tour title after an intense seven-hole playoff against Norway's Kristian Krogh Johannessen. Catlin shot a bogey-free five-under 67 in the final round, while Johannessen achieved a flawless six-under 66, overcoming a one-shot deficit. Both players parred the 18th hole, leading to a playoff where they matched each other with six consecutive pars before Catlin secured victory with a birdie on the seventh extra hole.
A Historic Return for the English Open
The English Open made its return to the golfing calendar after a 24-year hiatus, featuring a prestigious list of former champions such as Colin Montgomerie, Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam, and Darren Clarke. Catlin's victory adds his name to this esteemed roster. Barclay Brown from England and Sweden's Per Langfors shared third place at 13-under-par, while Germany's Alexander Knappe and American Jhared Hack finished tied for fifth at 12-under.
