Sankar Saraswat's Victory

In a remarkable display of skill, India's emerging badminton talent, Sankar Saraswat, defeated seasoned player Mithun Manjunath to secure the men's singles championship at the Guwahati Masters Super 100 tournament held at the National Centre of Excellence on Sunday.


Sankar triumphed over Mithun with scores of 21-11, 17-21, and 21-13 in an all-Indian final, as reported by the Badminton Association of India. The Jodhpur native advanced through the qualifying rounds and notably overcame Syed Modi Open champion Jason Gunawan in the second round.


Other Indian Players Finish as Runners-Up

In other events, world junior champion Tanvi Sharma and the men's doubles pair of Sai Pratheek K and Pruthvi Roy finished second in their respective finals.


Tanvi, seeded eighth, faced a tough match against sixth seed Tung Ciou-Tong from Chinese Taipei, ultimately losing 21-18, 21-18 in the women's singles final.


In the men's doubles final, the Malaysian duo of Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai defeated Roy and Sai Pratheek with scores of 21-13, 21-18.


Path to the Finals

Earlier in the tournament, both Sankar Saraswat and Mithun Manjunath achieved straight-game victories in the semifinals, ensuring an all-Indian title match and a gold medal for the host country. Rising star Tanvi Sharma also made headlines by defeating third seed Hina Akechi to reach the women's singles final.


Sankar showcased his talent by outplaying Indonesia's Dendi Triansyah with a score of 21-19, 21-19 in a match that lasted 39 minutes. Mithun, on the other hand, secured his final spot by defeating compatriot Tushar Suveer with a score of 22-20, 21-8 in a 42-minute match.
