Initially, Samson was not included in the starting lineup, as the management opted for Ishan Kishan to open alongside Abhishek Sharma. However, an illness sidelined Sharma, allowing Samson to make his World Cup debut against Namibia, where he scored 22 runs off 8 balls.
He followed this with a solid performance against Zimbabwe, scoring 24 runs off 15 balls, which solidified his position for the knockout rounds.
