Sanju Samson's Unexpected Exit from KCL 2026

In a surprising turn of events, star wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has opted out of the upcoming third edition of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL 2026). This decision follows a tumultuous few days for him, having been part of the T20 World Cup-winning team but not getting a chance to play in any matches.

Reports indicate that Sanju has not entered his name for the KCL auction scheduled to occur in Thiruvananthapuram. Out of 156 players set to be auctioned, Kerala's cricketing icon will not be among them, leaving many fans astonished. Previously, he was released by his team, the Kochi Blue Tigers, and was anticipated to be a top pick at the auction.

Sanju has communicated his decision to the Kerala Cricket Association. His immense popularity in Kerala and abroad means his absence will significantly impact the KCL, where he was expected to be a major draw.

Last season, the Kochi Blue Tigers acquired Sanju for an impressive ₹26.80 lakh, making him the league's most expensive player. The third season of the tournament is set to run from August 20 to September 5, coinciding with India's Test series against Sri Lanka.

Although Sanju is not included in the Test squad, his choice to withdraw from the league has raised numerous questions. After initial matches against Ireland and England in the World Cup, he did not receive further opportunities, and now his exit from a state-level league is generating considerable discussion.
