Sameer Rizvi Shines with Unbeaten 91, Leading Kanpur Superstars to Victory
Rizvi's Stellar Performance
In a thrilling encounter at the UP T20 League 2026, Sameer Rizvi showcased his exceptional power-hitting skills, scoring an impressive 91 runs off just 39 balls. His performance propelled the Kanpur Superstars to a commanding eight-wicket victory over the Noida Kings during Match 25. The match took place at the iconic Green Park Stadium, known for hosting 40 international games, and this win keeps Kanpur's hopes for the playoffs alive while marking Noida's second consecutive defeat.
Overcoming Injury Challenges
After being named Player of the Match, Rizvi shared insights about his recent finger injury that had sidelined him from the starting lineup. "I injured my finger while catching the ball in our first match, which made fielding quite painful," he explained. "I informed the management of my situation and opted to play as an Impact Player, as the injury affected both my fielding and batting. We agreed on this strategy to maximize my contribution to the team."
Strategic Mindset for Success
Following a rain delay, the match was adjusted to a 12-over format. Although Kanpur faced early challenges with the loss of both openers, Rizvi entered the game with a clear strategy. "It's crucial to be aggressive during the powerplay," he noted. "Given the short match length and a target of around 130, capitalizing on the powerplay is essential for controlling the game later on. I aimed to score as many runs as possible during that phase."
When asked if scoreboard pressure influenced his approach, Rizvi confidently stated, "Not at all. I focused on playing my natural game, regardless of whether we needed five or fifty runs. My mindset was set before I went in, and I maintained that focus throughout my innings, trusting in my ability to score."
Rizvi's Explosive Innings
Rizvi's explosive innings included 11 boundaries and five sixes, with Abhishek Pandey providing solid support by scoring an unbeaten 30 runs off 17 balls, helping to complete the chase in just 10.4 overs.
Noida's Early Momentum and Setbacks
Noida Kings initially raced to a strong start, with Shoaib Siddiqui scoring 20 runs off 10 balls and Madhav Kaushik contributing 31 runs off 11 balls, reaching 45 without loss in just 2.2 overs. However, Kanpur's Yashovardhan Singh turned the game around with an outstanding bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for just 10 runs, including a maiden over, which left Noida struggling at 69 for 5. Captain Prashant Veer managed to stabilize the innings, finishing with an unbeaten 50 runs off 27 balls, leading Noida to a total of 128 for 6.
Commendations for Tactical Leadership
Rizvi praised the stand-in captain Adarsh Singh for his effective leadership during Noida's aggressive start. "He managed the situation excellently. Despite their strong beginning, he made strategic bowling changes that limited their score to a manageable target. His captaincy was commendable," Rizvi remarked.
Dignitaries Inaugurate the Match
The match was officially inaugurated by Shri Rakesh Sachan, the Minister of Khadi and Village Industries, Sericulture, Handloom and Textile from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, alongside Shri Amitabh Bajpai, the MLA from Kanpur's Aryanagar constituency, who conducted the toss and the ceremonial bell ringing.
