Sam Bodoano Sets Guinness World Record with Epic 100km Run in Cricket Whites
Sam Bodoano's Remarkable Journey
Sam Bodoano, a cricketer from the UK, has achieved a remarkable feat by entering the Guinness World Records for completing a challenging 62-mile (100km) run from Lord’s Cricket Ground to Valley End Cricket Club.
A video that gained significant traction on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), showcased Bodoano arriving at Valley End Cricket Club in Woking, dressed in full cricket attire and clutching a red ball, ready to bowl to his father after an exhausting 14-hour overnight trek.
This incredible journey was not solely about breaking a record; it also aimed to raise funds for the Ruth Strauss Foundation. Throughout the 100-kilometre run, Bodoano faced extreme fatigue, navigated dark rural paths, and dealt with urban traffic, all while firmly holding onto a cricket ball.
How Sam Bodoano Achieved His Goal
Inspired by a previous record of 24km, Bodoano, who plays for Valley End Cricket Club (VECC) in Woking, embarked on this ambitious challenge. He began his journey at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground under the cover of night, undertaking a grueling 14-hour trek through London and into Surrey.
Dressed in cricket whites and a red hat, he carried a red ball throughout the entire distance, refusing to let it go even as exhaustion set in during the early hours. As dawn broke over Surrey, he continued to push through the remaining miles toward Woking.
Upon nearing Valley End Cricket Club, Bodoano's father awaited him to receive the historic final delivery. After nearly 15 hours on his feet, he successfully bowled the record-breaking ball to his father, completing this extraordinary challenge.
Fundraising for a Noble Cause
Sam Bodoano has reportedly raised close to £6,000 for the Ruth Strauss Foundation, utilizing his viral fame to provide essential support for families dealing with terminal cancer diagnoses and bereavement. The foundation, established by former England captain Andrew Strauss, focuses on offering emotional support to families facing the loss of a parent and funding vital research into non-smoking lung cancers.
Bodoano's challenge was not merely for personal achievement; it was a heartfelt mission to support a cause that resonates deeply within the cricketing community.
