Salil Arora, a batter for Ludhiana Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is optimistic about receiving his first call-up to the Indian white-ball team. He is concentrating on honing his skills and maintaining consistent performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Impressive IPL Debut
Arora made his IPL debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad this year, participating in 14 matches and accumulating 156 runs with an average of 22.28 and a striking strike rate of 159.18. He expressed, "It's crucial for me to keep enhancing my performance if I aspire to play for India. My goal is to excel in white-ball cricket and the IPL, focusing on upcoming tournaments to secure a spot on the national team."
Breakthrough in Domestic Cricket
The wicketkeeper-batter from Punjab made a significant impact in first-class cricket with a century on his debut against Madhya Pradesh during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, earning the Player of the Match title. However, it was his T20 performances that truly captured attention.
Remarkable T20 Achievements
In the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Arora scored an astonishing 125 not out off just 45 balls against Jharkhand. He concluded the tournament with 358 runs from eight innings, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 198.88 and hitting 28 sixes, the second-most in the tournament. His outstanding performances led to a lucrative Rs 1.50 crore contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2026.

Arora acknowledged that the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was a pivotal opportunity for him to display his talent, knowing that IPL scouts were observing the matches. "It was essential for me to perform well in this tournament to catch the attention of IPL scouts, and thankfully, my efforts paid off," he remarked.
Thriving in the Finisher's Role
Sunrisers Hyderabad has become known for its aggressive batting style, often aiming for totals exceeding 200. Arora, assigned the finisher's role, viewed the pressure as a chance to make a significant impact. He stated, "While there was pressure, I saw it as an opportunity to contribute. Our team’s attacking mindset allows me to play freely and maximize my impact during the final overs."

Arora commended the encouraging environment at Sunrisers Hyderabad, crediting senior players for their unwavering support. He noted, "The atmosphere is fantastic, with seniors like Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma fostering positivity. They back younger players, helping us feel confident and relaxed on the field."
Learning from Arshdeep Singh
Currently playing for Ludhiana Lions in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, Arora has scored 176 runs in seven matches at an average of 35.20. He expressed that playing alongside India’s ace bowler Arshdeep Singh enhances his experience and comfort level. "Having him as captain makes things easier for me, allowing me to learn and perform with greater confidence," he concluded.
